Ten years. That's how long Atlanta's Omni have been sitting quietly in the back of our heads, and now they're making sure we don't forget it. The band have announced a deluxe edition of Deluxe, yes, Deluxe Deluxe, which is either the most self-aware title in post-punk history or proof that naming things is genuinely hard, to mark the tenth anniversary of their debut album. We're not complaining either way. ## What You're Actually Getting This isn't a cynical cash-in with a remastered master and a sticker on the front. The two-disc set has some genuine substance to it. Disc one is the original ten tracks as you remember them: "Afterlife," "Wednesday Wedding," "Wire," "Earrings," "Jungle Jenny," "Cold Vermouth," "Eyes On The Floor," "Siam," "Plane," and "78." Straightforward enough. Disc two is where it gets interesting. All ten tracks return in demo form, which is always worth hearing, demos have a way of exposing what a song actually is before the studio gets involved. On top of that, the 2017 singles "Fever Bass" and "Thesis" are included, along with two previously unreleased tracks: "Loud Talking" and "Coliseum." Two new songs added to an anniversary reissue is more than most bands bother with. What makes it worth discussing beyond the song itself is the footage it uses: archive material from the 1997 demolition of the Omni, the Atlanta arena the band took their name from. That's a genuinely good piece of visual storytelling. A band named after a demolished building, marking ten years of existence, releasing a song called "Coliseum" set to footage of the original structure coming down. It connects. It's the kind of decision that makes you think there's been some real thought put into this release rather than just a label looking to move units on a round anniversary. A straight remaster with liner notes is fine for the completists, but it rarely tells you anything new. This one earns its existence: the demos give you a different angle on familiar material, the 2017 singles fill in a gap in the timeline, and two unreleased songs, one with a video that actually means something, push it beyond box-ticking. Omni haven't overstated their hand here. They've put together something that respects the original album without being precious about it, and "Coliseum" suggests they've lost none of the instinct that made Deluxe worth celebrating in the first place.
